A school bus carrying 40 students of the Raghava Concept School got stuck in a pothole while trying to cross a flooded road at Dharninagar in the Kukatpally area this morning.
The bus driver, without heeding the warnings given by locals, was attempting to cross the inundated road. The bus got stuck in a ditch amid the fast currents and looked like it would be swept off.
Upon hearing the cries for help, several residents of the area rescued the panicking students and driver.
Despite the government declaring indefinite holidays for government and private schools in view of incessant rains for the last several days, several schools have kept functioning, including this one.
Reacting to the incident, Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari lashed out at the "recklessness" of private institutions and their insenstivity to the situation. He vowed to take action against any such schools or institutions that remained open despite government orders.
