Several reservoirs and lakes in Telangana are brimming from heavy inflows due to the ongoing rains in Telangana.

The heavy rains that have been lashing Telangana unforgivingly for the past one month have an upside to them - several reservoirs and water bodies in the State are full due to heavy inflows reaching them, the highest being to the Sriramsagar project across the Godavari at Pochampad in Nizamabad (3.50 lakh cusecs).
The Sripada Yellampalli project (Karimnagar), the Upper and Mid Manair reservoirs (Karimnagar), the Kadem project (Adilabad) and the Singoor project (Manjeera) also received heavy inflows. Several other projects built across different rivulets are, at the moment, also receiving moderate to heavy inflows.
As per reports, of the 46,000 lakes in the State, 25,000 are full. Except Nagarjuna Sagar, all other projects have reached their maximum capacity to hold water. Srisailam and Nizam Sagar are expected to be full soon with more rains predicted.
Apprising them of this, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who arrived in Hyderabad today, told his ministers in a Cabinet meeting that while reservoirs and water bodies in the State were replenished, the people had seen better days. He expressed his grief at the deaths of several people across Telangana due to the rains.
After the meeting, KCR told the media that the State government would demolish all the illegal structures in the cityout 28,000, near the sewers and in the low-lying areas, that had been built on encroached lands originally hosting water bodies.
As expected, the CM blamed the mess in Hyderabad on the previous united Andhra Pradesh governments. He vowed to solve the problem at the earliest and develop the city as per international standards.
"We will develop the city on par with global standards. We will begin by removing illegal structures, chalking out a better town-plan, laying wide roads using better quality material and requesting for more funds from the Centre for the development of the city," he said.
