The police nab two serial killers, accused of luring prostitutes into isolated toddy shops and then murdering them.
The Bowenpally Police, on Monday, arrested two individuals who were allegedly responsible for the killing of five women.
According to City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma, the two accused - Talari alias Maina Sailu (42) and Methari Bala Narasimha (32) - have murdered five women in different situations, at isolated places, since April 2013.
Police have also recovered two pairs of gold earrings, 40 tulas (approximately 440 gms) of silver anklets and one mobile phone from the possession of the accused in correspondence to the two cases of murder in the Bowenpally PS, two such cases in the Chandnagar PS, and one other case in the Dundigal PS.
The Commissioner said that Talari was a habitual criminal who lured women (prostitutes, more astutely) to shady compounds that sold toddy, with the promise of good pay in exchange of sexual favors.
He would somehow coax these women to drink considerable amounts of toddy, and when they got properly drunk, he would then take them to an isolated spot and strangle them with their sarees.
After committing a murder he used to steal the gold and silver articles from the body of the deceased.
Previously, the accused, Sailu, was involved in the murders of eight women and that of a man. He had also stolen gold and silver ornaments from the bodies of the deceased, in the limits of Narsingi, Toopran, Sangareddy Rural, Dundigal, Narsapur, Kukatpally and Raidurgam Police Stations.
Sailu was not only involved in murders - he was also a perpetrator of crimes like robbery (Medak dist.), house break-ins (IDA Bolarum), ordinary thefts (Rajender Nagar) and motorcycle thefts (Raidurgam).
He was arrested on the 12th of October, 2009, by the Special Operation Team of Cyberabad. He was sent to the Cherlapally prison for having perpetrated the crimes mentioned above.
While in jail, the accused was brought before the court and was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life, along with being asked to pay a fine, on the 21st of February, 2011.
In prison, he was observed fraternising with other hardened criminals. In the month of December 2011, he got admitted in the Erragadda Mental hospital along with these criminals viz., Narasaiah, Afroz Khan, Griraj singh Vaghela, Yadagiri and Lachaiah.
On the night of 30th December, 2011, the criminals managed to escape from the mental hospital barrack by cutting the bars of the window. A case was registered at SR Nagar PS. Lachaiah and Afroz Khan are still on the run.
After escaping from Erragadda Mental Hospital, Sailu continued the earlier "modus operandi". He lured women at toddy compounds, and murdered two women in the Chandanagar PS limits in the months of April and May 2012, to obtain their jewellery.
Later, he came to IDA Bolarum, and worked in a stone crusher. This is where he came in contact with Bala Narsimha, who was also working at the same place, and who used to consume liquor and was a habitual womanizer.
Since then, the duo used to drink together, and in the year 2012, they lured two women to the toddy compounds and murdered them. These incidents took place in the Dundigal and Bowenpally limits.
The duo murdered another woman at the Recovery camp of the military area in the Bowenpally PS, on the 18th of April.
With the help of the evidence available at the scene of crime (including a bill for a Kinley mineral water bottle), Bowenpally Inspector R B Rangaiah made thorough investigations, and nabbed both the criminals.
During the interrogation, they confessed to have committed the above offences, the Commissioner said. (INN)
