On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, the Telangana government declared Hyderabad free of cheap liquor.
Telangana Excise & Prohibition Minister T Padma Rao Goud made the announcement after Collector Rahul Bojja declared Hyderabad free from the production of "country liquor".
Speaking at a program attended by Excise Commissioner Chandravadan, City Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and officials, Goud promised to offer alternate jobs to families whose livelihoods relied on the production and sale of cheap liquor.
He also said that the State government would provide rehabilitation and financial assistance to those who relied on producing cheap liquor in Dhoolpet, which was the first area to become 100% dry.
