On Monday, the Central Crime Station of the Hyderabad city police arrested former minister Dr. P Shankar Rao in connection to a dowry harassment case.
Based on a complaint lodged by Shankar Rao's daughter-in-law Vamsi Priya, in which she stated that her husband Sasank, sister-in-law Susmita, father-in-law Shankar Rao and mother-in-law Viswa Santi were harassing her for more dowry, the CCS arrested the former minister.
Vamsi Priya had also accused them of torturing her physically and mentally.
It may be mentioned that Vamsi Priya had earlier filed a
writ petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court on June 19, seeking the court's intervention in the case.
Meanwhile, Shankar Rao had dismissed the allegations and had said that Vamsi Priya was making baseless allegations in order to defame him.
He also said that Vamsi Priya had separated from her husband about three years ago. (INN)
