10-Year Jail For Man In POCSO Attempted Rape Case

A Fast Track Special Court in Medchal-Malkajgiri district today convicted a 41-year-old labourer, Korra Shivashankar alias Raju, in a 2017 attempted rape case, under the POCSO Act and IPC provisions.
The court sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 for attempted rape (Section 376 r/w 511 IPC), and 6 months simple imprisonment with a Rs 1,000 fine for wrongful confinement (Section 342 IPC).
The victim has also been awarded a Rs-3-lakh compensation.
The incident occurred on June 5, 2017, in Yousufguda when the minor victim was alone at home. Raju allegedly posed as a doctor, gained entry and attempted sexual assault. He fled after the victim raised an alarm.
Police arrested Raju on June 14, 2017, and filed a chargesheet after investigation. Following trial, the court in Kukatpally delivered the conviction today.
