Investigations into the doctor-shooting episode seem to have so far amply established that surgeon Dr P Shashi Kumar, who allegedly opened fire with his revolver on another doctor, his business partner Dr. Uday Kumar, in Himayathnagar, did indeed commit suicide in a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
It might be recalled that Shahsi Kumar had fired at Uday Kumar in Himayathnagar on Monday afternoon over some financial dispute. While Uday Kumar was admitted to Apollo Hospital with a bullet injury, Shashi Kumar disappeared from the scene.
Even as the police launched a manhunt for Shashi Kumar, information reached them that the fugitive doctor had taken shelter in the farmhouse of a family friend in the Moinabad area of the Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of the city. The police who reached the spot in the wee hours found the body of Shashi Kumar in a pool of blood. A suicide note was also found in which he claimed that he had not "killed" Uday Kumar, and that another doctor Sai Kumar had snatched his revolver and shot Uday Kumar.
In the suicide note, Shashi Kumar also named five persons including Uday Kumar and Sai Kumar for allegedly cheating him to the tune of over Rs. 1 crore.
The police recovered from the spot a revolver with which Shashi Kumar had shot himself.
Even as preliminary investigations pointed out that Shashi Kumar had committed suicide, the deceased doctor's wife alleged that her husband was murdered. Investigating officers however revealed that the inquiries so far and other material gathered amply proved that Shashi Kumar had fired at Uday Kumar with his revolver and later committed suicide in the farmhouse.
The doctor seemed to have resorted to the extreme step as he had assumed that Uday Kumar was killed by him in the shootout, not knowing that he was only injured and was admitted to the hospital.
The police also found that two bullets were fired from the revolver found near the body of Shashi Kumar. It was surmised that one bullet was fired at Uday Kumar and the other was used upon himself by Shashi Kumar. However, the police are waiting for the ballastics report from the Forensic Science Laboratory.
