Former union minister Digvijaya Singh's tweets that the Telangana police had created a bogus ISIS website to provoke youth to join ISIS modules has kicked up a controversy.
Singh took to Twitter to make the sensational claim, and even sought to know whether Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was behind it. He said that KCR should resign if he indeed knew of the exercise.
Responding strongly to it, Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao, who is in Delhi, demanded that Singh withdraw his "irresponsible" words and tender an unconditional apology. He also called upon AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to control the former union minister.
Talking to the media after meeting with several union ministers, KTR slammed the Congress leader, and ex-CM himself, for his derogatory remarks against the Telangana police that could affect their morale.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had appreciated the Telangana police as an role model for other States, KTR pointed out.
"If Rahul Gandhi cannot control Singh, then we have to consider the possibility that the Congress is behind this entire episode of mud-slinging on the Telangana government and belittling of its police forces," he said.
KTR said that Singh had also made similar thoughtless comments against the soldiers, who constantly work for the nation.
Telangana DGP Anurag Sharma, too, condemned Digvijaya Singh's comments. Sharma said that the unfounded allegations from a senior responsible leader would lower the morale and image of the police engaged in fighting anti-national forces.
The AICC general secretary failed to react to KTR's tongue-lashing. However, Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills Police Station against Singh.
Maganti alleged in his complaint that Singh had posted a baseless allegation against the Telangana police only for political gains. He sought apologies from Singh, and said that there was a peaceful atmosphere in Hyderabad and it was not proper for a responsible leader like Singh to post such reckless comments online.
