The CM directed district Collectors to be on alert and prevent loss of life and property.
In view of the heavy rains lashing several parts of the state since the past 2 days, Chief Minister K Rosaiah on Sunday directed district Collectors to be on alert and prevent loss of life and property.
Rosaiah directed Chief Secretary S V Prasad to convey his instructions to the district collectors since he is in New Delhi.
Earlier, the chief minister reviewed the situation on telephone with S V Prasad, Disaster Management Commissioner T Radha and other officials, where he noted that heavy inflows of water into the Vamsadhara and Nagavalli rivers may possibly pose a danger to people in low-lying areas if they are not evacuated.
Rosaiah also instructed district collectors to be on constant vigil and monitor the situation on day-to-day basis.
Rosaiah asked the collectors to constantly watch monsoon progress and the intensity of the rainfall in different districts. He wanted the district collectors to evacuate people from the low-lying areas to safer places well in advance in case of any inundation.
The chief minister also asked collectors, and officials from Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj and the Health Department to remain vigilant about the possibility of seasonal epidemics spreading in the heavy rainfall areas.
He directed them to store adequate medicines well in advance and sanitize the areas once the rains are over. Public places and roads should be cleared of dirt and waste, he said.
He also wanted the GHMC officials to desilt and clear the nalas and take steps to cover all the manholes for the smooth flow of drain-water in the twin-cities.
