A sudden downpour lashed the state capital today afternoon, and resulted in vehicular traffic being thrown out of control on all the busy roads of the city. The rain flooded low-lying areas, and disrupted the normal life of citizens.
Prime traffic areas in Hyderabad, including the stretches of Koti-Dilsukhnagar, Lakdikapool-Koti, Uppal - L B. Nagar and Karmanghat-Santoshnagar, saw congestions as the rain levels exceeded 618mm (the normal being 528mm).
With the Metro Rail works already causing inconvenience, the rains added to the commuters' woes. Clogging of drainages and blocked manholes can be blamed for the trouble. In spite of the continuous drainage repairs / works that are being undertaken by the state government, this is proving to be a grave issue. A traffic police official also said that the waterlogging was mainly due to the outdated drainage system.
The blockage also caused low-lying areas like Rajendranagar to be flooded with water. 3 apartments in this area were flooded with water, and more than 25 cars have reportedly sunk.
