The State High Court on Friday ordered an interim stay on the ban imposed by the State Human Rights Commission on 'Aata,' a reality show telecast on a Telugu television channel.
The petition challenging the SHRC ban was filed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., the producers of the reality show.
They pleaded that the SHRC had imposed the ban without giving them a chance to present their defence. They also claimed that they would incur heavy financial losses if the ban was imposed abruptly.
The High Court verdict on Friday not only overruled the ban, but also questioned the legitimacy of the SHRC verdict.
The SHRC had imposed the ban after complaints were received that it involved children below the age of 18 years, and that these children were subjected to physical and mental pressure during the filming of the television show. It had said that such shows violated the rights of children, while adding that children were being made perform obscene dances in these shows.
