An anti-reservation movement on the lines of Hardik Patel's stir in Gujarat is on the cards in Telangana.
Several forward caste people have floated an Anti-Reservation Committee and decided to launch a Maha Dharna at Indira Park on September 9.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Anti-Reservation Committee president Dr M Upender, Mahila Samakhya president Siddha Laxmi, Arya Vaisya Chaithanya Porata Samithi president Gandhe Premkumar Guptha, State Minority Welfare Association secretary S K Masoon, State Brahmana Sanghala Samakhya Brahmasree Sudheer Sharma, Reddy Welfare Association representatives Ramana Reddy and Avinash Reddy, State Dalit Bahujana Samithi president Govindakumar Swamy and others said that the Anti-Reservation Committee was not against the BC, SC or ST sections.
They pointed out, however, that because of reservations that many poor people in the upper castes were not getting jobs though they secured 90% of marks in examinations. And many from the BCs, SCs and STs were getting jobs via reservations though they were rich.
The motto of the Anti-Reservation Committee was to ensure that jobs would be given on the basis of merit and not on the basis of caste, they said.
"It will also help the nation to develop in terms of science and technology," they said.
They added that their slogans would be "reservations should not be caste-based", "encourage good students", "no reservations in politics to people who are rich" and "justice to all sections".
