Swachch Hyderabad and Swachch Telangana, the much-hyped clean and green programs of the Telangana government, kicked off today with Governor E S L Narsimhan launching the program by lighting a lamp at Hitex.
However, the program started on a low key note with not much hullabaloo.
Governor Narsimhan and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao unveiled the logo of the program on the occasion. Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Council Chairman Swamy Goud, Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy and others attended the program.
On the occasion, Narasimhan, KCR, the ministers and officials took an oath to cleanse the city.
Extending thanks to KCR on behalf of the Centre, Dattatreya gave a pat to the Chief Minister for taking up the Swachch Hyderabad program in a scientific manner.
"This program should help create awareness among the people to clean their homes and premises, and keep themselves healthy," he said, and called upon the people to come forward voluntarily to clean up Hyderabad and make it a beautiful city.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had himself designed the program.
The war to wipe out trash, dust and mud, which had just begun, would remain a continuous drive, he said.
The city had been divided into 425 units, and mentors had been given kits of details to take up the drive, he added.
According to information, some Telugu film heroes are likely to participate in the drive. (NSS)
