The remission granted to Syed Maqbool, an alleged operative of terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen, has been cancelled.
Governor E S L Narasimham on Tuesday signed the file related to the cancellation of the remission granted by the state government earlier. The file was sent to the Governor by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy following recommendation by senior ministers and officials during a review meeting held on Monday.
Maqbool has also been accused of carrying out a recce to conduct the bomb blast at Dilsukhnagar, and other places in the city.
Maqbool was convicted for life in a murder case in the year 2000 under the Afzalgunj police station limits. However, in 2009, he was granted a remission by the state government following good conduct. He was released on 2 October 2010, after the implementation of the previous orders.
However, a few months later, he was arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the Pune blasts. He is presently lodged in Tihar Jail. The National Investigation Agency, which has been entrusted the charge of investigating the Dilsukhnagar twin blast, brought him to the city to elicit information in the case. He was sent back to Tihar Jail on Monday evening. (INN)
