The Andhra Pradesh Save Education Committee urged Primary Education Minister S. Shailajanath on Thursday to appoint teachers under DSC-2008, to facilitate the strengthening of teaching in government schools.
The Committee leaders, led by its president K. Chakradhar Rao and general secretary G. Haragopal, met the minister at Secretariat on Thursday. They appealed for the checking of commercialisation of education and for the provision of suitable facilities in government schools as the latter were lagging behind private institutions.
They urged him to recruit for the large number of vacancies that were supposed to be filled up as per the staff pattern. They also requested for the implementation of the 30:1 student-teacher ratio, as per the Right to Education Act, 2009.
The Committee pointed out that in cases of an increase in the number of students from 100 to 200, the government must appoint a head-master. It was also mentioned that another classroom must be created if there were more than 55 students.
An appeal was also made to the minister to upgrade primary schools, apart from checking the drop-out rate by offering the students incentives like breakfast and mid-day meals.
The minister said that he would look into the issues.
