The state government on Thursday declared that the
statues on Tank Bund that were destroyed by Telangana agitators during the Million March held 2 months ago, would be replaced by 2012.
The government also stated that a statue of Komaram Bheem, a tribal leader from the Telangana region, would also be instated on the Tank Bund.
The state finance department has sanctioned Rs. 75,75,000 for the construction of the 12 statues that were completely destroyed by the uber-excited participants of the Million March. The drowned statues will be fished out by Navy divers, said officials.
Responding to this announcement, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President K Chandrasekhar Rao stated that the government was trying to impose the culture of the Seemandhra people on Telangana. He questioned why the statues of Telangana luminaries were not installed at any major centres in the Seemandhra region.
For latecomers, the statues of 33 famous personalities stand proudly along the Tank Bund, and 12 of them were pulled down by Telangana agitators during a rally named Million March. Of the 12, 11 statues were hurled into the Husain Sagar.
