The 12-day Godavari Pushkaralu would be celebrated in the league of the Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, said Telangana Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy.
Talking to mediapersons at the Secretariat, the minister said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would launch the holy Pushkaralu at 6:21 am at Dharmapuri in the Karimnagar district.
The Chief Minister had already spoken to his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis for the release of waters to Basara to pave the way for the Pushkara festivities, he said.
"Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao is pursuing this with the Maharashtra government, and we need 5 TMC of water," the minister said. Except at Basara in the Adilabad district, there was no water problem at any place, he stated.
Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Pushkaralu in all five districts of Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal and Khammam, Reddy said.
"Some three crore people had attended the last Pushkaralu, and this time we are expecting about six to eight crore people to take a holy dip," he added. (NSS)
