The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will soon open a modernized graveyard, "Maha Prasthanam", at Road No 45, Jubilee Hills.
The graveyard, being established on 3.7 acres of land, will be free from pollution and equipped with the latest technology including an electric crematorium, a cafeteria, Wifi, shower bathrooms and lockers, and will have a continuous chanting of the Bhagawad Gita's hymns.
GHMC Commissioner and Special Officer Somesh Kumar on Monday briefed Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma that this was the first time that the GHMC was taking up work on modernising a graveyard, aimed at offering all the basic minimum facilities to enable people to perform the last rites of their loved ones.
He also informed that major graveyards in the GHMC limits would be modernized on the same lines in the near future. The process to develop the Panjagutta graveyard was also on, and it would be taken up shortly, he said. (INN)
