YSR Congress Party leader, Amer Ali Khan, has criticised the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for not making adequate arrangements to clear the garbage that got accumulated due to the strike by the GHMC employees.
Amer Ali Khan alleged that the unbearably foul smell has started emanating from heaps of garbage in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. He said that the three-day strike by over 25,000 municipal workers has turned the city into a garbage dumping yard.
Khan also stated that over 12,000 metric tonnes of garbage is lying scattered on various roads, lanes and by-lanes of the twin cities and that this will continue to grow at the rate of 4,000 MTs per day, if not cleared immediately.
The YSRCP leader has blamed the GHMC and the state government for the ongoing strike by the municipal workers. Supporting the demands of workers who are on strike, he said that the government should fulfill their demands immediately.
The outsourced workers/labours of the GHMC are demanding an increase in wages from Rs 6,700 to Rs 16,700, issuing of health cards to all the permanent employees of GHMC and the purchase of new vehicles in place of old vehicles. They are also demanding clearance of cases pending in the court with regard to promotion of UDC, LDC and Bill Collectors.
Amer Ali Khan said that both the GHMC and state government were trying to suppress the strike and ignore the demands raised by the GHMC employees. He alleged that the corporation was trying to blame the striking employees for the deteriorating sanitation conditions in the city.
He said that the continuation of strike will only turn the situation from bad to worse. The accumulation of tonnes of garbage in the city would lead to serious health hazards for the citizens.
Amer Ali Khan threatened to launch an agitation, along with the GHMC employees, if the government fails to fulfil the striking workers' demands on an immediate basis. (INN)
