GHMC General Body Meeting Turns Chaotic

The general body meeting of the GHMC held today turned chaotic.

The meeting was chaired by mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi. The ruling TRS' corporators and the BJP's corporators entered into multiple arguments with each other, causing disruptions in the proceedings of the council.

The meeting started by attempting to pay tributes to the martyrs of the Telangana armed peasant struggle. However the BJP corporators raised slogans before paying the tributes. They raised objections stating that September 17 was a liberation day and not a merger day.

Later, arguments started during the discussion on the works taken up under the SNDP. Some corporators said that the works were going on at a snail's pace, while some other corporators demanded clearances of arrears. Congress corporator from Uppal Rajitha told the council that the people of the city were facing a lot of problems whenever there were rains in the city, and asked the ruling party leaders to come out of their houses and observe the status of the city when rains hit, leading to protests from the TRS members.

The issue of the joining of some BJP corporators into the TRS also led chaos in the council hall. The BJP corporators surrounded the podium of the Mayor and raised slogans. As the sloganeering did not stop, the mayor adjourned the meeting.
