A day ahead of the last date for nominations, 16 members of the ruling TRS filed their nominations for the GHMC elections on Saturday.
Though the last date for filing nominations is January 17, the main political parties are yet to announce their candidates.
According to information, the Telugu Desam Party and the BJP, allies, will compete in 90 and 60 seats respectively, but the candidates are yet to be announced. The MIM, too, is yet to announce its candidates.
The TRS has announced 80 candidates in two phases, and is yet to announce another 70.
The Congress finished announcing its candidates today for all the 150 divisions. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy had announced the first list on January 15 with 45 members, and today he announced the nominees for the remaining divisions.
The Election Commission officials said 1,097 nominations were filed by Saturday evening for the elections.
Several candidates filed their papers on Saturday considering it an auspicious day. 1,003 nominations were filed today itself.
The elections will be held on February 2.
