GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the immersion of Ganesh idols was going on smoothly due to the effective coordination among all line departments and bodies like the HMWW&SB, police, HMDA, electricity and irrigation.
Speaking to media persons, Somesh Kumar said that the irrigation department played a vital role in this year's Ganesh immersion procession. It had installed 36 cranes all along the Tank Bund for the smooth conduct of immersion, he said.
The Commissioner informed that since Sunday, nearly 12,000 Ganesh idols had been immersed, and over 10,000 idols more were expected to be immersed. Compared to the last year, almost 1,000 more Ganesh idols were expected for the immersion this year.
The GHMC Officials were continuously monitoring the situation on mobile phones and wireless sets, duly coordinating with all the departments and resolving any issues immediately, he said.
Replying to a query, the Commissioner said that elaborate arrangements had been made in view of the huge participation of people in the immersion process. The GHMC had taken up a lot of works with regard to sanitation, road repairing and lifting of debris on the entire route of the procession. Street lights were properly maintained while toilets, including mobile toilets, were arranged, wherever necessary, for the convenience of the devotees.
The Commissioner said more that 40,000 people had been deployed for this Ganesh Immersion by all the government departments collectively. For the free movement of the procession, nearly 1,000 CCTV cameras had been installed, which helped the authorities in diverting traffic to less congested routes for early completion of the procession.
The GHMC had also arranged nearly 40 swimmers with life jackets to protect affected people if any untoward incident occurred.
Somesh Kumar said 122 teams with 2,826 workers had been deployed exclusively on the procession route, apart from the regular teams. He also said that proper arrangements had been made for the lifting of debris on the entire route, with the coordination of the police department.
The GHMC had identified 230 points for the clearing of debris. Every GHMC circle had been provided with one JCB and four 6-tonner vehicles for clearing all the debris in the routes.
The main places where the immersions would taking place, like Hussain Sagar, Saroornagar lake, IDL, Hasanpet, Pragathi Nagar, Sunnam Cheruvu, Gandham Cheruvu, Palle Cheruvu etc., is where most of the elaborate arrangements have been made. (INN)
