As always, Hyderabad is all geared up to bid a loud, ear-drum rupturing goodbye to Lord Ganesha on September 29 this year. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has erected 54 watch towers for the Hyderabad police across the twin cities, to ensure a peaceful Ganesh immsersion.
Officials of the AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) said that the number of Ganesh pandals in the city this year has gone upto 50,000, and that the noise levels are bound to cross 100 decibels as against 90 decibels last year on the immersion day.
Officials also predicted that the noisiest area in the city on the final immersion day would be the Abids junction, as processions from Koti, Dilsukhnagar and Charminar take this route to Hussain Sagar.
Watch towers have been erected at all important junctions of Hyderabad to keep watch on the processions. A police constable with binoculars and a VHF wireless set will be made in charge of each tower.
Meanwhile, citizens complain that the noise keeps on incresing as the years pass, and opine that the APPCB must do something about this.
