Gaddam Prasad Kumar of the Congress, an SC MLA, was today unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
Protem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi announced this in the House.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed happiness at the election of Prasad Kumar, and thanked the members of the BRS, the MIM and the CPI who supported his election.
"A good tradition has been set by all the members in the Assembly to elect the Speaker unanimously, and I hope that the tradition will be continued in the future as well," he said.
Reddy said that Prasad Kumar had risen from the bottom to become the Speaker, and that he had left an indelible mark on the development of Vikarabad.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated Prasad Kumar for being elected as the Speaker, and said that Prasad Kumar was a person who understood the problems of the poor, and would therefore make a good leader for the Assembly.
