The BRS has filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar for failing to comply with the Court's three-month deadline to decide on the disqualification petitions of 10 BRS MLAs.
The advocate representing the BRS requested the Chief Justice's Court to take up the matter for an early hearing.
He submitted that the Supreme Court had earlier stated that if the proceedings were delayed appropriate action could be taken. However, the case remained at the evidence stage - two petitions were still pending, while others were under evidence, the counsel said. The Speaker was attempting to prolong the process until Chief Justice B R Gavai's retirement, he alleged.
After hearing the submissions, the Chief Justice said that the case would be heard on Monday, November 17.
