In a bizarre incident, two women in the Mahabubnagar district died due to the non-availability of spurious toddy.
According to information, the women belonging to Guntapalli and Pulimamidi were addicted to spurious toddy. They reportedly fell ill as they could not get spurious toddy for four days now. They breathed their last on Sunday.
In addition, some 30 spurious toddy addicts were hospitalized in the Mahabubnagar town, and 16 in the Jadcherla hospitals.
In the temple town of Basara in the Adilabad district, another two toddy addicts died and 60 others took ill due to the non-availability of toddy.
According to the police, the Excise & Prohibition squads had forced the closure of toddy shops in the pilgrim town, resulting in the deaths and illnesses.
