Police Commissioner A K Khan said that the forcible collection of funds is likely to create religious animosity and hatred among different communities.
The Hyderabad City Police have warned anti-social elements of serious police action if they try to extort money in the name of religion and religious functions.
In view of the 10-day Ganesh festival commencing on 1 September, City Police Commissioner A K Khan has issued orders imposing a ban on the forcible collection of 'chanda'.
"The forcible collection of funds is likely to create religious animosity and hatred among different communities and individuals, and is also likely to result in the commission of offences and disturb public peace," Khan said.
