A holy dip in the River Godavari on Maha Shivrathri spelled death for five young boys of Chintrial village, Ashwapuram mandal, Khammam district.

The boys, namely Chanti (17), Mohammad Tajuddin (7), Saleem (13), Suryateja (12), and Pavan (12), were reportedly performing a ritualistic holy bath in the river, when strong currents swept them away.

The bodies of Chanti, Tajuddin and Saleem have been found, while the locals are still searching for those of Pavan and Suryateja.
