A police constable attached to the Bahadurpura police station was electrocuted in a Siva temple while discharging his duties.
According to information, there was commotion and a minor stampede as a large number of devotees thronged the Siva temple in Bahadurpura on the occasion of Mahasivaratri on Monday. And when an electric wire snapped, panicking devotees started running helter-skelter.
Police constable Srinivas, who was posted at the temple, rushed to the rescue of the frightened devotees, and got electrocuted himself in the process.
In another incident, a stampede occurred in the famous Siva temple in Srikalahasti in the Chittoor district on Monday when hundreds of devotees thronged the temple for a darshan.
When the temple gates were opened, a large number of devotees surged forward suddenly, causing a stampede.
A housewife of Guntur and many devotees were injured. They were rushed to a hospital immediately.
