The state government, on Wednesday, permitted the Bathini brothers of Dhoodhbowli to distribute their fish medicine, which claims to be a cure for asthma and respiratory illnesses, at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally on 8 and 9 June.
The famous Bathini Brothers have been administering fish medicine free of cost to patients for the past 163 years.
Bathini Harinath Goud said that the fish medicine is given on the day of Mrigasira Karti, which marks the onset of the monsoon according to the Hindu calendar.
The yellow herbal medicine is inserted into the mouths of live sardine fishs, which are about 2 to 3 inches long each. The live fish is then slipped into the throats of patients.
"For vegetarians, we prepare a separate medicine with jaggery. However, vegetarians need to take the medicine for a longer period," Harinath Goud said.
Earlier, the Bathini brothers had announced a change in venue for the distribution of the famous fish medicine, from the Exhibition Grounds at Nampally to Rajendranagar, opposite the Agriculture University. However, the government did not give them permission to host the event in the new location.
Meanwhile, the State Fisheries department has made all arrangements to supply thousands of fishlings to Exhibition Grounds, and the State Road Transport Corporation has made elaborate arrangements to ply special buses to the venue from across the state. (INN)
