Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav today said that free distribution of fish across Telangana would begin on August 5.
After a review meeting with officials, the minister told the media that arrangements had been made for dropping the fish into reservoirs across the state.
The minister said that Rs 50 crore was being spent to drop 81 lakh fish seed in 24,000 lakes, tanks and other water bodies, to benefit the fishermen community.
He also said that Rs 10 crore was to be spent to drop 5 crore shrimp in 78 lakes and other water bodies.
The program would boost the rural economy and help the fishermen community in a big way, he claimed.
MPs, MLAs and local leaders would participate in the program across the state, he said.
Yadav also said that the second phase of sheep distribution would be taken up and that the pending funds for animal insurance would be released in a month. Mega dairy works would also begin soon and more outlets would come up, he added.
