Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday said that the government would supply premier quality rice to the holders of ration cards being issued under the public distribution system, from April 1.
During a review meeting held on the issue at the CM's camp office, AP Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Nani and officials of the department apprised the CM of the details of the stocks of rice available in the state now.
They told the CM that 26.63 lakh tons of rice were required to implement the scheme, and that the state had 28.74 lakh quintals of rice in stock.
The officials also showed samples of the premier quality rice to the CM during the meeting.
The state government will distribute the rice in special packets. It will set up 99 packing units at 30 places in the State for the purpose.
