FDI Voting: TDP Saves UPA In Rajya Sabha
Amidst a strong notion that the Congress and the TDP are working in tandem, TDP walk out of the Rajya Sabha along with BSP and SP members, to enable the UPA to win the FDI vote.
Amidst a strong notion that the Congress and the TDP have ganged up and are working in tandem, TDP members walked out of the Rajya Sabha along with BSP and SP members, to enable the UPA to win the vote on FDI in the Rajya Sabha.
The TDP has five members in the upper house, of which T Devender Goud, Sujana Choudhary and G Sudha Rani did attend the House but did not take part in the voting.
The TDP, which was born on an anti-Congress plank, is being accused of being close to the ruling Congress, and of playing the role of a very "supportive" opposition.
However, the TDP has its own defense - it claims that it is a strong votary of globalization and that it cannot say no to FDI, but also that it cannot sail with the Congress, and hence the best way out is to abstain from voting.
Ideologies apart, the TRS, which has parted ways with the Congress, did vote with the Opposition. The TDP has to go an extra mile to explain its decision to abstain from voting, that too, when things are not going very well for the party in the state. (INN)
