Bharatiya Janata Party leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday stated that the UPA Government has no moral right to continue in power for its alleged involvement in various scams.
Talking to media persons at the party office at Nampally, Venkaiah Naidu accused Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh of taking the decision to allow foreign direct investment in various sectors in order to divert the attention of the people from the Coalgate scam. FDI in retail sector would completely ruin small and medium businesses, leading to the loss of livelihood for many people, he bemoaned. Clarifying that the BJP was not against reforms, he said that the party was opposed to FDI specifically in the retail sector.
As the UPA government has totally failed to protect the interests of the country, he opined that it has no moral right to continue in power. He said that the Prime Minister should step down immediately paving the way for mid-term elections.
The BJP leader also came down heavily on oil marketing companies for the restriction of subsidy on gas cylinders to six per family per year. He pronounced that the subsidy on gas should be lifted for officials having an income of more than Rs. 6 lakhs per annum. He called upon all sections of people to participate in the nationwide bandh on September 20 in protest against corruption and FDI in retail sector. (INN)
