"Is this much drama necessary for purchasing paddy from farmers to help them?" TPCC Senior Vice President G Niranjan asked today.
The senior Congress leader said that the farmers wouldn't have been facing the current agony if the State government had announced that it would purchase their paddy immediately after the union government declined to.
"Without taking a decision here itself, why has KCR taken thousands of his party men to Delhi in this hot summer and made them suffer?" Niranjan asked.
He also said that the state government should do what it can first to address the price rise.
"The State government should take a decision in tomorrow's cabinet meeting to cut down the tax burden imposed by it on the consumers by the way of VAT on petrol, diesel and gas. The State government is collecting VAT of 35.2% on petrol and 27% on diesel. After the increase in prices of petrol and diesel from March 22, the State government is getting additional income of Rs 4 on petrol and Rs 3 on diesel. If KCR is really committed to the welfare of the general public, the cabinet meeting should take a decision to stop the enhancement in electricity and bus charges by cutting its margins on petrol and diesel," he said.
