Telangana Congress MLA Jagga Reddy today came down heavily on the BJP-led union government for the recent spike in the price of LPG cylinders.
Speaking to the press at the Assembly media point, Reddy also alleged that the BJP had the habit of forgetting about the promises it made before elections, and claimed that state BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar always evaded questions regarding the same.
"Has the BJP forgotten all the promises it had made before coming into power at the Centre? What happened to the PM's promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh each into the account of every Indian ahead of the 2014 elections? You expect Telangana to vote for your party, but do nothing for the people of the state. Will you be able to get the 15 lakhs that Modi had promised for every resident of the state after speaking to the PM?" he asked Kumar.
(In 2014, while campaigning for the general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised that if the BJP won the elections, it would bring back Indian black money stashed abroad, and deposit Rs 15 lakh each into every citizen's bank account.)
Reddy also attacked the BJP-led union government for the recent rise in LPG cylinder prices, and alleged that while the party had raised a hue and cry when fuel and cylinder prices were increased marginally in the UPA era, it had not done much to regulate prices after coming to power itself.
Specifically targeting union minister Smriti Irani, the Congress leader asked whether she had forgotten the time she had protested the cylinder price hike some years ago.
He also brought up the issue of increased crude oil prices, and pointed out that while a litre of diesel was only Rs 38 under the UPA, it had jumped to Rs 78 under the rule of the BJP, and asked Bandi to get the Centre to take steps to bring down the crude oil prices if he really wanted to help the people.
Reddy also expressed his dissatisfaction with the BJP's chief "heavily religious" rhetoric, and asked why the latter always spoke of temples and gods instead of answering questions about the party's unfulfilled promises.
"Bandi Sanjay only incites the youth of Telangana for the saffron party's electoral gains, and does not do much to address the real problems of the public. He distracts the youth of the state from the problems of BJP rule with his provocative rhetoric," he added.
