Demanding a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton, farmers on Friday thrashed a trader at Enumamula market yard in Warangal district.
The agitating cotton farmers staged a protest in the market yard demanding increase in Minimum Support Price for cotton.
The angry farmers also ransacked the office furniture and files in the yard and damaged window panes by pelting stones at the market yard office.
The farmers were demanding that the government fix Rs. 4,000 as Minimum Support Price for cotton against the present Rs. 3,000 fixed by the Centre.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the market yard following the incident and police lathi-charged the agitating farmers and took them into their custody.
Earlier, the cotton farmers from Karimnagar district laid siege in the market yard demanding hike in MSP and gheraoed the yard chairman Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy last Monday.
Some of the cotton farmer threatened to to end their lives by consuming pesticides if their demands were not met.
