Scores of farmers of Telangana today made a futile attempt to lay siege to the camp office of the Chief Minister of the state, Pragathi Bhavan, as part of their protest.
The farmers came from Karimnagar, Jagityal and Rajanna-Sircilla districts among others, and held the protest under the aegis of the Rythu Aikya Vedika.
However, the police obstructed the farmers en route to Pragathi Bhavan, and took them into preventive custody.
They were later taken to the Goshamahal police station.
Speaking on the occasion, the farmers said that they had cultivated a fine variety of rice as part of the regulated farming policy of the state government. However, they had lost the crops due to untimely rains and floods. They were also facing problems at the grain procurement centres due to the damaged quality of their grains.
In the light of all of that, they demanded that the state government buy their produce for Rs 2,500 per quintal immediately.
They also alleged that the authorities concerned were not properly buying crops including paddy, maize and cotton.
