Congress senior leader and former MP G Vivek called on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at the latter's office on Wednesday.
Speaking to media persons later, Vivek said that he had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister requesting him to hasten the process of the setting up of a memorial for his late father G Venkataswamy, who had passed away recently.
He said that Venkataswamy was a freedom fighter and a strong Telangana protagonist. He said that his father had served people through various posts that he had held in long political career. He had actively participated in the 1969 statehood agitation, and was a strong supporter of a separate Telangana.
He said that KCR had earlier promised to build a memorial at Necklace Road in honour of Venkataswamy, and that he (Vivek) had called on him today to speed up the process.
Vivek also made it clear that his visit was purely personal and was confined to the memorial of his father. He said that he had no plans to quit the Congress party. (INN)
