Rahil Shakeel, the son of BRS leader and former Bodhan MLA Aamir Shakeel, has been arrested by the Hyderabad police.
The police immediately produced him at a judge's residence. The judge remanded him to judicial custody till April 22.
Rahil has been shifted to the Chanchalguda jail.
Rahil was the main accused in a road accident that took place at Praja Bhavan last year. The police had issued a lookout notice for him after he fled to Dubai following the accident. He was detained at the airport by the police while he was returning to India from Dubai.
For the uninitiated, on December 23 last year, Rahil, under influence of alcohol, was driving at a high speed when he hit the traffic dividers at Praja Bhavan in Begumpet. There were three of his friends too in the car at that time. Rahil then fled to Dubai with his father Shakeel.
Abdul Asif, a native of Maharashtra, was sent to the Punjagutta police station as the driver in the case in place of Rahil. However, it came to light later that the then Punjagutta inspector Durga Rao had helped Rahil escape in the case. Based on the call data found in the cell phones seized from his possession, it was found that Shakeel had spoken to Nizamabad inspector Prem Kumar and two others. It was found that CIs Durga Rao and Prem Kumar had intervened to manipulate the case. Both of them were suspended, arrested and interrogated in the case. Eight suspects have been arrested in the case so far.
