Bidding goodbye to his long career in active politics, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah visited the party headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, and the Congress Legislature Party office, probably for the last time as a politician.
He was welcomed by former minister J C Diwakar Reddy, MLA Mastan Vali, among others, at the CLP office.
Rosaiah, 78,
has been appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, and will be assuming charge by next week.
He visited the Gandhi Bhavan and the CLP office, since he cannot visit either of them after becoming Governor.
Rosaiah was elected as a member of the Legislative Council for the first time In 1968. Since then, he has been visiting the state Legislative Assembly premises regularly.
He has been a member of the Cabinet of 5 Chief Ministers - M Chenna Reddy, T Anjaiah, K Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy and Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The corridors of the Legislative Assembly must have reminded Rosaiah of the time he had spent as the Finance Minister of the state, as he had introduced the state budget 16 times, including 7 times in a row, creating a record in the country.
He said he could not forget a single moment that he had spent in the CLP office and at Gandhi Bhavan.
Talking to media persons at the CLP office, Rosaiah said he had received his appointment letter as the Governor of Tamil Nadu, that was sent by President K Pratibha Patil. He is yet to take a decision on when to assume charge, he added.
According to sources, Rosaiah is likely to assume charge as the Governor on September 2, at around 8pm.
He will attend the death anniversary function of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on the day, and then proceed to Chennai. (INN)
