Activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) old city office, Sardar Mahal, alleging inaction in safeguarding property in Gowlipura abattoir.
The protestors stated that despite the Andhra Pradesh High Court setting aside the mutation of the property by former Hyderabad Collector Naveen Mittal, the lethargic attitude of the officials had resulted in some alleged land grabbers grabbing parts of the 4.14 acre of land of the abattoir.
The land, in survey no. 242, was originally shown as measuring 8 acre, out of which 4.14 acre was set aside for the abattoir, and the remaining is a graveyard in revenue records.
The High Court had agreed with the revenue record, and had set aside the mutation on the orders of the former Collector.
Talking to media persons, CPM city secretary M Srinivas said that Naveen Mittal, before being transferred from his post, had mutated land spanning 4.14 acre to some locals. He said that these locals, in concurrence with some persons alleged to be land grabbers, had encroached the land.
Srinivas alleged that the GHMC employees in the town planning wing were sitting idle despite complaints that the land was being encroached.
The protestors submitted a memorandum to the Zonal Joint Commissioner Suresh Rao. He assured them that he would take appropriate action.
