Union Minister Prakash Javadekar today accused the previous Indian governments of negligence for not developing the forest regions, which is resulting in poor rainfall now.
He expressed concern that almost Rs 35,000 crores meant for such programs had not been used by the previous governments, and that the country was being deprived of normal rainfall.
He thus showered praises on Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for taking up the Haritha Haram project with the same zeal as the statehood movement.
Participating in the greenery project Telanganaku Haritha Haram at the Mothe village in the Nizamabad district, the Union minister planted a sapling, and said that the project would help increase forest cover to 33%.
He also asked other states to emulate the Telanganaku Haritha Haram project to expand greenery, saying that there were no such projects in any other state in the country.
Javadekar said the Centre would allot Campa funds to the states for such programs. He exuded confidence that the state governments would choose to benefit from this support take up massive afforestation programs in the near future. (NSS)
