Hyderabad | 21st October 2010
The Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers, on Thursday, served a strike notice to the government.
Briefing media persons at the state Secretariat, JAC secretary general K Swamy Goud said that they were forced to serve the notice due to the unresponsive and indifferent attitude of the government, and called upon all their members/employees to make note of it.
Goud said that in case there was no favourable reply from the government, they would start a relay hunger strike at Indira Park from November 8 to 16, a relay fast in district headquarters from November 10 to 12, and a 'Chalo Hyderabad' on November 23 with 6,55,000 employees in all.
Even then if there was no response from the government, the JAC would chalk out an action program on the evening of November 23, to organise an indefinite strike to realise its demands.
The JAC also demanded a House Rent Allowance of 20% at district headquarters, a 30% House Rent Allowance for the HMDA area in place of the GHMC area - an increase of 15% in place of the existing 12.5% and 10% respectively - regularisation of contract staff, and the filling up of all vacant posts in class IV cadres, among others.
Goud revealed that the JAC had originally stated 38 demands but had brought these down to 10, but the government was still adopting a stubborn stand and not being favourable to any of their demands.
He also appealed to the government to concede to their demands in the larger interests of the people and the employees.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary S V Prasad assured the JAC team that he would look into the matter.
Among others, JAC chairman V Gopal Reddy, Co-Chairmen P Venkata Reddy, N Narayana, K Narasimha Reddy, N Ananda Rao, M Janardha Reddy, Dy Secretary Generals P Ashok Babu, and G Devi Prasad Rao were also present.
