Elections For 3,342 Sarpanch Posts On Friday
4,137 sarpanch and 36,620 ward representative positions will be filled in the second phase of the Telangana panchayat elections to be held tomorrow.

The Telangana State Election Commission has gotten ready for conducting the second phase of the gram panchayats elections on January 25.
Out of the 4,137 gram panchayats to have elections for Sarpanches in this phase, 3,342 will be going to the polls since 788 Sarpanches were elected unopposed and nominations were not filed for seven panchayats.
As many as 10,668 candidates are in the fray for the Sarpanch posts.
36,620 wards were also scheduled to have elections tomorrow, but only 26,209 will go in for the polls since 10,317 wards had representatives elected unopposed and nominations were not filed for 94 wards. There are a total of 63,380 candidates contesting for the ward representative positions.
The first phase of the elections for the panchayats was conducted on January 21 (and saw the TRS once again dominating the results), and the third phase is scheduled for January 30. The campaigning for the second phase ended yesterday, and there was reportedly plenty of money and liquor involved. Election Commission officials have so far seized Rs 1.78 crore in money and liquor worth Rs 36.27 lakh from several places.
The ballots already used for the first phase will be used for the second phase, and the same officials will discharge duties.
