BRS working president and Telangana IT Minister K T Rama Rao launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party over the Adani crisis, calling Gautam Adani a proxy of Modi.
Speaking at a press conference, Rao demanded to know why Prime Minister did not clarify on the allegations against him or Adani.
"We're saying Gautam Adani is a proxy of Narendra Modi. In the double engine he talks about, the economic engine is Adani and the political engine is Modi. Will the PM take a lie detector test to refute that? Does he have guts to come out clean in front of the country? Is everyone in the BJP a brother of Raja Harishchandra?" he thundered.
KTR also slammed the BJP for "political vendetta against its opponents", and warned Modi that he was playing with fire.
"Are all the BJP people clean? Harassment, political vendetta and intimidation might work elsewhere for Narendra Modi. But in Telangana he is playing with fire, and I'm sure he'll realise it in the days to come," the Telangana leader said.
Talking specifically about the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons to MLC K Kavitha, his sister, Rao said that they were not ED summons, but "Modi summons". He said that upon realising that the BRS would be a threat to it at the national level, the Modi government had implicated nearly a dozen BRS leaders including ministers, MPs and other legislators, and was now conspiring against Kavitha. He said that the BRS was however ready to face any consequences for its protests, and would approach the courts for justice.
The minister said that the ED and CBI raids on the leaders of the opposition parties were aimed at eradicating democracy in the country. "More than 95% of raids conducted by the ED are on opposition party leaders. However, convictions have happpened in only 23 of the over 5,400 cases filed since the Modi regime began in 2014," KTR claimed.
"We don't fear the Modi summons, and are prepared to face any investigation. We are looking at the ED summons to Kavitha that are politically motivated. We will face them, and will teach a fitting lesson to the BJP politically in the days to come," KTR said.
He added that unlike BJP leader B L Santosh who had been evading questioning even after being named in the MLAs' poaching case, Kavitha, being a law-abiding citizen of the country, would appear for questioning at the ED office in Delhi.
