The Enforcement Directorate (ED) of the country has issued notices to 12 Tollywood celebrities in a sensational four-year-old drug trafficking and money laundering case.
The celebrities have been asked to appear before the body on different dates in August, September, and November.
Celebrities who have received summons include director Puri Jagannath, and actors Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh, Charmme Kaur, Ravi Teja, and Mumaith Khan.
The ED has summoned Puri Jagannadh on August 31, and Rakul Preet Kaur on September 6. Meanwhile, Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja and Mumaith Khan have been summoned on September 8, September 9 and November 15, respectively.
These 12 members of the Tollywood fraternity were first questioned by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2017 for their suspected involvement in a high end drug racket. As part of the investigations, the SIT had also collected hair and nail samples of 62 suspects including these celebrities.
In the same year, a South African national, identified as Rafael Alex Victor, was also arrested by the team for allegedly peddling cocaine from Mumbai to Hyderabad. And although the Telangana excise department had filed 12 cases in the issue and filed charge sheets for 11, the SIT has not named the celebrities in a single charge sheet so far as no concrete evidence has found against them yet.
