The Election Commission on Saturday dismissed the plea by Congress party candidate from Vemulawada, Aadi Srinivas, seeking disqualification of his rival Chennamanneni Ramesh of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Srinivas had pleaded before the EC that Ramesh was not eligible to contest, on the grounds that he holds dual - Indian and German - citizenship.
Dismissing the Congress candidate's petition, the Election Commission on Saturday gave the nod for the candidature of Ramesh.
Ramesh had defeated Srinivas by 1,800 votes in the 2009 general elections, when he contested on the Telugu Desam Party ticket.
He later resigned from the TDP and joined the TRS when the separate Telangana movement reached its peak, necessitating by-elections.
