With the Telangana Assembly elections just two days away, the Election Commission today issued prohibitory orders in the State against public meetings.
The EC directed that no campaigns, meetings, television ads or pre-poll surveys would be allowed in the 48 hours before the polling, and that results of opinion polls not be disclosed.
Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said that the co-operation of both the political parties and the citizens was crucial for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections. The EC would initiate immediate action against violators of the Model Code of Conduct, he warned.
Also, as per the EC directive, in the 13 Naxal-infested / sensitive segments, polling will end at 4 pm on December 7. The constituencies to have early conclusion of the polls are Manthani, Bhupalpalle, Mulug, Pinapaka, Yellandu, Kothagudem, Aswaraopeta, Bhadrachalam, Sirpur, Chennur, Bellampalli, Mancheriala and Asifabad. In the remaining constituencies, polling will take place till 5 pm.
