The Engineering And Medical Common Entrance Test, known better as EAMCET, was conducted peacefully on Sunday all over the state, amidst tight security.
Cell phone jammers and intensive frisking were among the measures planned by the authorities this year in order to prevent malpractice, an occurrence rampant in any examination in India with stakes as high as this one. A few students in Hyderabad and Kadapa were reportedly caught either carrying cell-phones into the examination centres or copying in the exam.
The entrance test (which was conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, this year) is conducted for admissions into engineering and medicine colleges. This year, 2,78,801 candidates had applied for the engineering stream while 68,518 candidates had applied for the medical stream. The engineering stream saw 96.75% of the applicants take the test, and the medical stream saw 95.81% of the applicants appearing.
According to Prof. B N Reddy, the EAMCET convenor, the EAMCET key will be released on June 25, and results announced in the first week of July.
